Julia Slingsby  (House Natural Resources Committee Press Secretary) helpfully suggests we tune in at 10 am today (LIVE NOW) to watch the legislative hearing where we ARE HEARING input on Chairman Bishop’s draft reform legislation to the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The LWCF has received a lot of criticism and the Committee has received calls to empower the statescounties, and local groups while limiting the federal land acquisition that has consumed so much of the fund. Permanently reauthorizing a program with systemic problems is not good enough for the American people.

The Protecting America’s Recreation and Conservation (PARC) Act reallocates the funds to give more money to the Stateside Program. One important provision that has not received a lot of attention is that 19% of the fund will go to STEM higher education grants to enable young Americans to enter the technologically advanced offshore industry, ensuring that the revenues for conservation continue for future generations. Chairman Bishop and members of the Committee are eager to hear input about how to strengthen this legislation.

See the breakdown below and learn more here. The hearing starts at 10am in Longworth 1324. Watch online here and click here for witness list, hearing memo, and testimony.
