The Houston ChronicleGasoline may rise above $4 as plants shut down.  Gasoline prices may rise above $4 a gallon next summer as refineries along the U.S. East Coast close, reducing fuel supply, said Edward Morse, New York-based head of commodities research at Citigroup Global Markets Inc.

Getting more oil from Canada, already the largest U.S. crude supplier, would reduce reliance on the Middle East and could make up for expected future shortfalls from Mexico and Venezuela.
 
Industry analysts Thursday predicted the US Environmental Protection Agency’s newly issued Maximum Achievable Control Technology Rule, issued late Wednesday, would cause the retirement of roughly 50 GW of coal-fired power plants in the coming years with a subsequent uptick in demand for natural gas form the power sector.
