In Memoriam: Ted Stevens

Last night I laid me

     down to sleep,

And prayed the Lord

     my soul to keep;

Then slept protected

     at His feet.

In the morning

     I went forth,

To my life's work

     in His far North;

I sought to labor

without rest, without remorse.

So, if it be your will, I pray:

When time doth come

     for me to go,

Let it be soft

     as fallen snow;

Let it be swift

     as shaft from bow.

(Note: We humbly offer this personal tribute.  We know that family and closer friends would better state the sadness and respect and memories we -- individually, and as Alaskans -- share.  -dh)

GOVERNOR LINGLE STATEMENT ON DEATH OF
FORMER U.S. SENATOR TED STEVENS

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle issued the following statement on the death of former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.

“On behalf of the people of Hawai‘i, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, as well as to the people of the State of Alaska.

“Senator Stevens was a true patriot who loved his country and his home state.  He was also a friend to Hawai‘i and a supporter of federal recognition for native Hawaiians.

“As the longest serving Republican in U.S. Senate history, Senator Stevens represented Alaska with distinction and honor.

“Our hearts and prayers are with Senator Stevens’ family, as well as with the families of the other people who lost their lives in the plane crash in Alaska today.”
